2 Supreme Court justices taking stage in DC opera

October 24, 2009 - 2:09pm

WASHINGTON (AP) - Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia are taking the stage with the Washington National Opera.

Ginsburg and Scalia will have non-speaking roles in "Ariadne auf Naxos" (are-EE-AHD-nay off NACKS-ohs) when it opens Saturday night at the Kennedy Center Opera House. They will be dressed in black-tie attire and remain on stage for nearly 90 minutes.

The opera depicts a serious opera company and a comedic troupe performing at the same time during a dinner party.

Ginsburg's husband, Georgetown University law professor Martin Ginsburg, D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and arts philanthropist Adrienne Arsht will join the justices in playing party guests.

Event organizers say Ginsburg and Scalia are opera lovers and have appeared in previous productions.
