Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) called on Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) to apologize to her and the rest of Congress after already issuing an apology to President Barack Obama for an outburst during his speech in which he accused the president of lying.

“I will not put energy into demanding more, but if Joe Wilson is an honorable man, he will decide to do more,” Norton said in a statement.

“Joe Wilson has been man enough to apologize to the President. It remains to be seen whether he will rise to the full meaning of what the occasion demands, and step forward to apologize to his peers and to the nation.”

In the midst of Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress last Wednesday, Wilson yelled, “You lie”, a comment that has earned him more than $1 million in campaign contributions since then.

Norton is not alone in asking him to apologize to Congress, but Wilson on Sunday said he would not be doing so. Norton justified that if Wilson had made his remarks during a debate on the House floor, he would have been asked to apologize.

“Had Rep. Wilson said the same words on the House floor during debate to a Member of the House, his words could have been ‘taken down,’ and an apology required before the House,” she said.
